V posledných rokoch došlo k renesancii fantasy literatúry, ako aj vedeckej a špekulatívnej (FVŠL) literatúry ako spôsobu, ako zmapovať komplexné témy nemimetickým spôsobom. Nadšené prijatie Margaret Atwoodovej, Kima Stanleya Robinsona a Liu Cixina podčiarkuje zmenu, ktorá ukazuje, že rôzne skupiny čitateľov na celom svete prijímajú beletriu, aby získali orientáciu v novej ére neistoty. Táto literatúra slúži na jednej strane ako platforma na diskusiu o vzájomných vzťahoch medzi ľuďmi, zvieratami a technosférou. V osobnejšom meradle ponúka literatúra FVŠL aj jedinečné možnosti diskutovať o intímnych vzťahoch v pojmoch mimo skutočnosti, keďže utopická rodová politika sa premieta do virtuálnych realít, exoplanét a mimozemských foriem života. Vzhľadom na to, že tento žáner oslovuje spisovateľov so širokým spektrom politických názorov, je potrebné sa ním zaoberať primeraným spôsobom. Na jednej strane existuje tendencia zdôrazňovať aspekty, ktoré tento žáner charakterizujú v priaznivom svetle, napr. zdôrazňovaním jeho literárnej príťažlivosti a progresívnych hodnôt. Na druhej strane je potrebné diskutovať a hodnotiť príklady, ktoré fungujú mimo tejto sféry. Aké riešenia ponúka techno-optimistická vesmírna opera v kontexte existenciálnych hrozieb a spoločenského kolapsu? Aký je vzťah survivalistickej beletrie k meniacemu sa vnímaniu mužskosti? Celkovo má súčasná FVS literatúra tendenciu obetovať
jazykovú komplexnosť v prospech ľahkej čitateľnosti. Ktoré príklady posúvajú hranice medzi komerčnou prózou a umeleckým vyjadrením? (Upozorňujeme, že jazykom dohľadu bude angličtina alebo nemčina.)

Sci-fi, Speculative Fiction, and Fantasy Literature in the New Age of Uncertainty

Recent years have seen the rehabilitation of fantasy as well as science and speculative fiction (SSF) as a way to map complex themes in a non-mimetic fashion. The enthusiastic reception of Margaret Atwood, Kim Stanley Robinson and Liu Cixin underlines a shift in how different audiences across the globe embrace fiction to navigate a New Age of Uncertainty. On the one hand, such fiction serves as a platform to discuss the interplays between humans, animals and the technosphere. On a more personal scope, SSF also offers unique possibilities to discuss intimate relationship in non-realistic terms, as utopian gender politics are mapped onto virtual realities, exoplanets and alien life forms. Since the genre appeals to writers of a wide spectrum of political biases, it becomes necessary not only to emphasise what characterises the genre in favourable terms, e.g. by emphasising its literary appeal and progressive values, but also to assess those example that operate outside this realm. Which solutions does technooptimist space opera offer in the wake of existential threats and societal collapse? How does survivalist fiction relate to shifting perceptions of masculinity? And while it is true that SSF tends to sacrifice linguistic complexity in favour of easy reading, which examples are pushing the boundaries between commercial prose and artistic expression? (Please note that the supervision language will be English or German.)
